Texas Northeastern GP7R 2166, of Santa Fe vintage, in front of the ex-T&P depot, Paris, TX, February 1991. The track east of Paris to New Boston was taken up in 1996, and TNER seldom comes into Paris these days. The line this diesel sits on is ex-Texas & Pacific, which ran from Texarkana to Ft. Worth via Paris, Sherman and Whitesboro.

Interesting power.... they look like the first GP16 rebuilds that the Family Line System (SCL/L&N) had done with their old GP's. Here's a pair done by the Paducah shops... they have the big "ox yoke" intakes:

Friscobob, I got two questions for you : First, Aint there a mall in south Sherman, the last time i was in Sherman, some where around that mall were some abandoned railroad tracks , were they once apon a time Katy tracks, I guess the Hillsboro sub. that connected in Dension? The other Question is: Did the SSW tracks that ran out of Ft.Worth run up to Dension too?

Sorry to take so long to reply- I've been offline while I moved from Colorado to Sherman.

    To answer your questions:

The Katy branch from Denison to Sherman came off the Greenville main in Denison. The line was taken up from Denison to where it crossed the T&P line in Sherman; from the T&P south for about a half mile, it exists to serve the ConAgra flour mill and a couple of grain elevators. It's serviced by TNER, and Con-Agra has an EconoRail SW900 in service to switch cars.

Second, the SP line ran to Denison. Frisco had trackage rights from Denison to south of Sherman, where the Frisco peeled off right & headed on to Irving. Dallas, Garland & Northeastern now has this line south to Plano. From Plano south, it's part of DART's light rail line.

This is where my ignorance comes out in full bloom- I didn't know there was a Ray Hill in Denison. I'm sure there's a bit of a climb coming up out of the Red River (Frisco and SSW had one going south out of Denison).

BTW, at the lumber yard in Denison, across the MKT tracks from the Katy depot and office building, there is supposed to be a part of the Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf RR freighthouse. KO&G's southern terminus was in Denison.
