The L&N had ten RS-11s, all former SAL. I saw very few of them in Knoxville. Caught the 956 in 01/1980.
From autumn 1977, former ACL C-628 2006 (ex-SCL 2206) is at work in Knoxville on the L&N as their 7519.
From a snowy 01/14/1978 at Knoxville, TN, C-420 1313 shrugs off the chill. The L&N collected C-420s from the Monon, P&N, SAL and TC; the 1313 is original L&N.
From 02/25/1978 on decidedly damp track, L&N C-420 1308 works a local at Knoxville. She too is original L&N.
From 07/21/1976 at Lambertville, NJ, former CNJ RS-3 1554 is in service on the Black River & Western. I knew the engineman, so was treated to a cab ride that day. In the years since, the 1554 has migrated to shortline Delaware-Lackawanna RR in Scranton, PA. That's the Delaware & Raritan Canal to the right, completed in the 1830s.
The canal remains filled through Lambertville at least. Sadly, this portion of the BR&W has been pulled up. Who'd have guessed that the canal would outlive the railroad?
Gotta love those round-nosed Alco RS units... There's a strange pipe coming up from the side of the hood, near the cab. I see it on older photos too. An internal Watchman heater?

In the ASTA yard in Cedar Park, Texas. S2 came from Fort Howard Paper company, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
July 1976 at Hudson OH, CR C-636 6786 and friends. She's former PC, ordered by the PRR prior to the merger.
