So I've been thinking of modeling a beer industry. Here's a rough scetch of my layout (3' x 5', definatly not drawn to scale ) - with the two main lines and the switches at 0", the one siding that goes on for a while goes up to a little under 3". The red line is the backdrop. The green lines are tunnel portals. The top half is a more natural look, with the bottom half being a sort of cityscape. now, where that long siding ends (near the +3), I was thinking of putting a brewry there, and having my Penn Rs-3 alco do the main of the work, with possibly a switcher working in the yard with the second mainline at its disposale (oh, yeah, this is a freelanced layout). what would be the best rolling stock to use? (boxcars? reefers? tankers? any/all? I dunno what the prototype uses). or better yet, if the brewry sounds foolish enough, any other industry's you can think of? (city-related, tho. No grain towers ) sorry about writing a book [ 14 May 2002, 08:05: Message edited by: Big Willy ]
Hmmm, more lubrication for the engineer... Random thoughts inbound: Beer needs grain, so covered hoppers (or boxcars for an earlier era) Beer needs packaging, so boxcars for bottles, cans and cardboard Machinery breaks or is replaced, so the occasional flat or gondola with replacements Perhaps the brewery makes its' own power, so coal in hoppers or oil in tanks Cleaning solvent in the occasional tank Outbound would be almost exclusively insulated boxcars or reefers with the finished product I think
Hint: Red Caboose makes great 62' beer boxcars, and the come sometimes with the bonus of MT couplers!!! I have 5, and love them. Good luck! Don't forget the brewery needs large grain silo setup.... and lots of hoppers!
If I am not mistaken, Moses may have laughed at that joke the first time it was told in Egypt. GROAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Jeff (Man I love this crowd)
It may be old but it still reels them in. Thanks Catt for answering in my abscence. The only thing missing was the vaudville snare drum and cymbal crash.
