I'm curious- How many yards are presently operating in Atlanta? Can anyone give a brief history of their previous owners, and knowing some were re-titled, prior names? Boxcab E50
Well, I hate to admit this but I'm not sure just how many yards there are here. Will list the ones I know. Some by name and some by location. NS: Inman Yard - The main NS yard here. Formerly Southern Railway. Austell Intermodal Yard - Built by NS East Point Yard - Between downtown and the airport. Possible old CofG Triple Crown Yard - Built by NS Chamblee Area Yard - Former Southern. Just outside GM Doraville Plant Possibly another south of Hapeville GA for the Ford plant near the airport. CSX: Tilford Yard - The main CSX yard. Old W&A yard Howell Yard - Mainly a bulk commodities yard. Think this was the old SCL yard. Downtown Intermodal Yard - Possible old A&WP yard. Fairburn Intermodal Yard - Built by CSX Cartersville W&A Yard - Old NC&StL / W&A yard Cartersville K&A Yard - Old L&N Yard Cartersville North Yard - Built by CSX to srvice Budwiser and an Industial Park Fulton County Railroad - Former CSX trackage and small yard in west Atlanta Marta Light Rail: 1 near the airport 1 just northeat of downtown These are the yards that I can remember. Like I said, don't really know all the yard names or heritage and I'm not really sure that's all the yards. CSX's Tilford Yard and NS's Inman yard are basically side by side and are the two humpyards in the Atlanta area. All the others are flat yards.
If it were just a flag, alone, I'd probably not like the scheme. With that added belt of stars, there's quite a positive difference. Boxcab E50
I agree with that. CSX did a nice job with this unit. Just wish I could have caught it when it had the Pesidential seal on the side of the cab. Funny thing is, the blue and yellow look an awful lot like the current CSX scheme only this was 15+ years ago.
Maybe someone looked at it, and decided to bring this scheme forward? Or was it an earlier test for the idea of these particular colors? Perhaps in corporate files, resides the answer... Boxcab E50
