Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway GP38 2813, later renumbered 3877, on the Nanaimo switch job. Gordon Hulford photos.

3876(former ENR 2796) on the shop track at Wellcox(Nanaimo, BC).

Both 3876 and 3877 have been reassigned to the Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad. Both units are former Southern Railway GP38's.

To the PS&P? I thought PS&P belonged to a different family of shortlines, namely the Arizona and CA group. That said, I have seen a Central Oregon and Pacific unit working down there and I know CORP is a Raoltex property, so it's all a bit confused these days.

You are partially right ct .. but Rail America bought out RailTex's interests in CORP. All of the CORP power units I have seen lately have the words "Rail America" printed on them now. [IMG] Also, CORP is in the process of getting rid of most of their GP38s and going to bigger, six axle locos (I'm diesel dumb and don't know their type). [IMG] [IMG]

Hmmm, thats interesting. I was in Eugene OR on 9-28 and didn't see any six axle power in the CORP yard, so this may be more recent than that. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. I really hope that they don't abandon the red and gray (and especially the frisco paint) in favor of the red white and blue. I guess I'll just have to make another trip to Eugene to see how it's progressing. How awful. [IMG]

CORP runs at night down here or I'd get you a photo. Maybe I can catch one in Medford when I go up there. [IMG]

Oh, ok. THat was somthing else I've wondered about, but never had the ambition to follow up on. I diod once bag a CORP train going up over the pass towards Ashland, but I'm down that way so rarely that I've never gotten a feel for the scheduling. Maybe next time I'm headed down there I'll get a hold of a timetable before I leave.

The westbound train comes from Medford and the eastbound from Black Butte (Weed). They meet in Hornbrook, CA and exchange consists.

They used to run during the day but the westbound started a couple of fires in 2001 and the state fire marshal ordered CORP to run at night to reduce the chance of fire caused by brake shoe sparks. Also, CORP received a fairly heavy fine as a result of the fire(s). It is not clear if they will continue to run at night during the winter months.
