Got some quick shots of this NB BNSF intermodal in Kent today, sitting at the crossing-gates started coming down, no way I was gonna gun it! You can barely make out the original Northern Pacific station in my town, last one left on the whole line. Haven't seen too many SD40-2 in revenue service lately, so this was a nice catch! Glad both locos were in the "H1" paint scheme, my fav!
Heading south from Kent, I am trying to recall... The next still standing depot is at Centralia? Then at Chehalis? I hope that someone will work to save Kent from eventual destruction!
Yup, exactly-but Steilacoom is still standing for now. With the exception of the Northern Pacific Union Station in Tacoma, which is off from the rails now, which is now the museum.
Ah. I forgot about Steilacoom. After the earthquake damage to it, there were threats of it being demolished, so I am surprised it is still standing. I last stopped there in 2008 or 2010. Can't recall which....
Hooray -- today is a historic day, as I finally got a picture of a BNSF unit leading a train this afternoon. Here's the 3702 in command of NS 15R north of Blythewood, SC.
I have the ever-decreasing hope of also seeing a KCS unit, a quarry that is mighty rare along the Atlantic seaboard. Maybe someday, assuming CP is slow to repaint them .......
I'd assumed so, but I just checked and it seems not yet. Congressmen and women, the Dept. of Justice and various state lawmakers are piling on in opposition. Neither has the STB approved yet.
