Caught the tail end of the 1st gen units running around, before they were killed off by newer power. Is nice to see these solid sets still, in between the techno toasters! Lot's of Geeps running around too!
BNSF 3962 trailing the Galveston Museum Special at Rosenberg, Texas, October 2, 2016. Bryan Flint photo.
BNSF 7838 and mate, sits on the siding at Quanah TX, on the old QA&P/SLSF trackage on Aug 11, 2002, photo by me. As you can see, its pretty clean. Recently out of major repair or rebuild, as it sits on fresh, unpainted trucks, with new traction motors, new draft gear, at least the #2/3 cooling fans replaced with blue fan assemblies, maybe a new plow too. Retention tank details.
BNSF 1499 was found working East Thomas Yard in Birmingham AL on June 22, 2002. Have always thought these GP15's were neat little engines.
Golden hour at Gassman bridge, westbound 2x3x1 "combo" double grain loads attacking the .62% grade leaving Minot:
BNSF 9701 at Jasper AL June 22, 2002 - There are a few different nick names for these. On I am glad never stuck was Eddie Bauer units. In the mid 90's Ford had done a special Eddie Bauer edition pick up with a two tone paint scheme that resembled the colors on these units. Pentrex even referred to them as that in at least one of their video's.
Railfanning Is ...... hoping to catch a BNSF unit leading yesterday's NS 15R, but having the sun set before it arrived. My preferred location was in shadow, so I retreated to another spot, only to have it in shadow within a short while. No pictures. Sigh.
It's not every day I see coal trains on BNSF in Minot, as they typically stay to the south on the ex-NP. This one came from CP at Sweetgrass, MT.
The race is on! On main track 1 at left, a double grain "combo" gets underway. At right on track 2 is a standard grain train, both loaded. They both got lights to proceed west at the same time.
