Greetings all Well, it had to happen, This weekend, I took my Fiancee with me to an open house for a model railway club. Don't get me wrong, she adores my trains (N-guage) and the work I do with them, and loves running trains and in fact, we are moving into a new townhouse in April and the first comment when we looked at the fully finished basement was.. "yep your trains are going to look wonderful in here" Anyway, while we were talking she said.. you know.. I would love to help on the scenic side, but its all so tiny. Anyway, on talking and with a worrying little gnawing going on inside I determined she liked a Bachmann On30 2-6-0 she had seen while wandering, when I was digging through the N-guage stuff at the other end of the shop.. "You know it would be much easier to really detail in that size.. can you do two railways or do you modellers only ever work in one size?" okayyyyyyyy I am rambling, but suffice to say, I am looking for some good ideas in On30.. I guess we could fit in something about 12' x 3' and fully DCC'd, on an unused wall of the basement but I know little to zip about On30.. So if anyone can point me to where I can start to find out information and products available for On30, I would be very grateful Regards
Graham- I have a bunch of On30 sites bookmarked. Was trying to think of a good way to copy that list. Perhaps this will help some. I did a Google search. And some of the sites came up that way: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=On30 Hope this helps for a start. Boxcab E50
Graham - for pure inspiration of the logging side of On30, take a look at Paul Templar's Cooncreek & Tumbleweed Springs
Check out the Bachmann website forum. www.bachmanntrains.com Also, for O scale narrow guage dealers... http://home.netcom.com/~lrickert/On30/dealers.html And don't forget to check out... Narrow Guage and Shortline Gazette magazine. I have a similar problem, I model N scale but also have been dabbling in On30. I don't really have the room for both, but can't give up one or the other.
I put my layout [On30] into 4 by 6 feet with two levels. Maybe that could help you too. Depending on the engines you get, you can go much sharper on the radius then HO even. I have my shay doing a 12 inch curve for instance. Although I prefer 15 for my shay and 12 for the Porter [0-4-0]. I hope that helps.
