I've been camped out near some BNSF tracks. Have my old laptop along, and wanted to download from my camera, see what I captured and edit a little. Oops. I forgot to install the software for my camera, and there is not a reader slot on this machine. HELP. I have a Canon T5 and need to use it on an old XP Pro setup. Looking at the Canon web site, there seems to be something available, yet I cannot seem to get anything downloading. Is there freeware or something which will read my camera via cable? Again, HELP.
Just guessing here, based on my own experience... I've been using IrfanView since Charlie got me started with it. With that open, I can open up any pictures on my camera (would have to look at the model after work) directly if the camera is plugged in to the computer. IrfanView (and the computer, I suppose) just treat the camera as an external storage device in that case. Worth a try.
OK. This is strange. It never worked, previously, but tonight the Windows picture viewer opened up when I plugged in the camera! So I was able to copy things across. Now I just hope it keeps working!
The camera should be plug and play with XP. It will look like a USB storage device. The Canon driver will just add special features and controls. Glad something worked ok for you, today.
