Last evening I was fooling around at my work bench with some leftover N scale loco pieces. Several months ago I mounted an Atlas Alco RS-11 body on a Life-Like GP-20 chassis. It was an easy swap but now I have this halfway decent RS-11 chassis that needs a body. So I scrounged around my parts box and came up with the walkway from the GP-20 as a base. I had a cab and nose from an Atlas GP38-2 that I had converted to NS high hood and the main hood section from the donor Atlas SD35 high hood body. So to make all this fit, I cut a section of body out of the main body where one of the dynamic brake fans is and mated the two halves back together. I had to trim some of the blower duct off of the left side to fit the raised walkway but it all fits together nicely. I filed the turbocharged exhaust stack off and added two regular stacks on either side of the dynamic brake housing. I know the overall length is shorter than anything later than a GP20 but it kinda looks like a GP38 without the filter box.
So obvoiusly, I have some sort of home road re-build here but what? Would this type of thing be possible in the prorotypical sense? And if so what would it be called?

Sounds to me like you have a HNZ-57.

    :D

Would love to see pics of what you came up with.

    Could it be a V8?

Would like to see the pics, but looking at the description, sounds like you have a BNITB-2
(Bad Night In The Bushes Dash Two) :D :D :D

    (isn't model railroading fun?????)

HMMMMMM "HZGH-2" An ultra-turbocharged Ex GP-38, with SD-35 additives, and G.E. flex-I-coil trucks.... HMMM Nice bash! But weird configuration! What road you making it Warren ???? The pictures of it show up nicely and not to mention closed lines from hacking on it! NICE body work! [IMG]

Well now, THAT's different! Add an EMD fuel tank, and you'd have a de-turboed GP35, a la Missouri Pacific! And, as an aside, some railroads (Frisco, for one) had GP35s running on trucks from traded-in Alcos.

Having seen the pic, I retract my earlier model suggestion- looks more like a deturboed GP35. And a nice one, at that!

This unit will be painted and decaled to match my other three locos that belong to the local short line that services the coal fired power plant on my layout. I have the Life-Like powered RS-11, an Alco S-2 and an F-7B unit painted in this scheme with the white barricade stripes similar to CPrail except they point downwards from the centerline of the hood ends.
For the life of me, I can't seem to come up with a good name for this short line yet. I have a little work yet to go on the body before I'm happy with it but I thought I'd slap some paint on it and show it to you guys. I guess I can call this unit a GP-35HR (HERMAN Rebuild) :D

Good call Warren! "GP-35HR" [IMG] I thought it was deturboed but I'm no diesel man so.... I kept quiet. I'd rather keep quiet and not say anything, rather then look stupid.. amongst a bunch of diezul weasulz! I'll keep my superheated and unsaturated articulateds!BUT I'm learning diezulz! :D
