    1 1/2" and 2" brake shoes. Cars with Wabco beams take the 1 1/2, cars with standard beams take the 2".

    The two in the left rack look similar to brake shoes used on locomotives. As for the shoes sitting outside, when they are installed on the equipment it sits outside. There are a lot of railroad parts that sit outside. At the engine house all EMD rad fans and grid blowers are stored outside as they are exposed to the weather on locomotives.
