Hey let's see everyone's snow fighting equipment. I think this equipment is some of the most fascinating railroad M of W "hardware". Here is my NP and GN snow fighters.
Snow? GNBill is starting to post like William Cowie! I am amazed that they paint the roof of that equipment white in the winter. Looks like a lot of work to me!
Bill- Under the GN rotary, there's one red "X", then two more photos. What's the red"X" supposed to be? Anyhow, tell us about these projects! What did you start with, and how did you put 'em together? They look great! Boxcab E50
Hi Boxcab: The russell plow is just the Walthers unit repainted and decaled, nothing special. The GN rotary started out as the Dimi Trains plow, but I scratchbuilt a new super structure to match a GN plow in one of my books. The markings are a combination of units I have pictures of. The F3B is an old Rapido dummy that I painted to match the plow. I doubt they ever painted them this way, but it looks nice In all my pictures of GN plows they have an X before the number, so I can only assume that is some kind of Mof W notation. The Jordan is entirely scratchbuilt from styrene and stretched sprue. I built this and the GN plow about 13 years ago when I was in college. I finished the rotary late last year, I kind of got side tracked I based the spreader on SP's big 70 ton units used on Donner Pass. I like them with the crew cabin. I'm planning on building a few more, but the next ones will be SP&S and GN prototypes. I cannot fathom paying 300+ for the Overland brass models. My wife would divorce me! I'm hoping the next ones will be an improvement on this one, but we'll see. This unit runs on the rear of the power lashup pushing the rotary. This is my coal fired NP rotart. It's also from the Dimi kit but has a new cab added. not a true prototype but it captures the feel of their old coal powered plows. The tender is from an old Bachmann steamer, and the decals are from Microscale. I wish I could remember more on the construction of the Jordan but it's been too long. The wings used to work, but it was on display in a local hobby shop and some idiot picked it up and dropped it onto a concrete floor. It was almost totally destroyed. I just can't believe some people's idiotic attitudes.
There are plenty of stupid people in this world. Seems like there are more every day. Too bad the hobby shop didn't have a "you break it, you've bought it policy." Anyhow, hope you'll keep sharing the modeling efforts. Especially since it's pre-1970 stuff! Boxcab E50
