Just a reminder to anyone in the PNW that Snoqualmie is having their annual RR days festival this weekend Aug 20-21. There will be train rides (obviouslly), model RR displays (one of which I am a part of), live music, beer gardens, parade on Saturday, and food vendors just to name a few.

I will only be able to attend to my club (The United Northwest model railroad club) on Sunday as I have to work on Saturdays. If any of you come to town, stop by and say hi!

Hope to see some of you there.

    Ken-

I dont know if I will be able to meet up with Keith or not with our schedules this weekend. I will tell all the crew hi for you though. Peter has been busy juggling family life, his job, and duties as president of the UNW. I dont know how, but he manages it all quite well.

I will take my camera along on Sunday. Maybe some lucky foamer will finally get some pics of the CW 38s that just rolled out of the Vail paint shops.

    Best regards
    Ryan

Back in the day I lived in Snohomish. Great small town. Don't remember Railroad Days. I this something new in the last 20 years? Wish I could be there in any case. Jim

    Jim-

This is in Snoqualmie (eastern King County). Not Snohomish (southern Snohomish County).

I should remember how long, as I lived in that Valley, (both upper and Lower), for almost fifty years!

I went to Snoqualmie only on Sunday due to work schedule. The weather was FANTASTIC! I think it was mid 80s and clear blue skies! I did not take any pictures of the UNW layout as the lighting was not that good. I did however, have a friend of mine buy us some tickets for the speeder ride. Well the speeder took us down to the new car barn and we got a tour of the building. Inside was this gem! The museum has just finished a refurbish on their Weyco #1 which is a FM H12-44. This loco was White River Lumber #1 and later became Weyerhauser #714 based out of the Vail operations.

By chance did you hear what all they did to the FM? What it more than cosmetic? I seem to remember there was a worn truck bolster, I believe under the cab end, which could bang side to side at times..

They did a total refurbish on her. Last year for RR days it was sitting in the rebuild shop and was torn down to the engine block. They reworked the engine, due to a cracked ring or piston or something along that lines. They stripped the old paint off of her and completely repainted the old girl. I have a picture somewhere of her right out of the paint booth with no lettering on her yet.

Ugh. I just remembered something. One day when PTS was out doing maintenance on her, years ago. Somehow a gasket or seal on the oil filter canister didn't seat. We fired it up, and oil gushed everywhere. What a mess!
