After a lot of screwing around......this morning I put the last slop of paint on the business half of my basement ceiling . From now on almost 100% of my effort will go into laying track. As everyone can imagine, electrical plugs, lighting, off-on switches, etc., must be in place and operating before trying to set up a layout. That has been accomplished......but I'm sure that sometime down the line I'll say..." I should have done this.....or that"..... Planning ahead is okay but I am not clairvoyant. I'd like to solicit some help with one annoying problem. My railroad is called The New York, Woodside & Bayside.......The "North Shore Line"...... I intend to purchase undecorated passenger cars and put decals on them. The problem is that the smallest font on my computer is #8. I will need a #6 to be in scale. I'm sure that it can be done,....but how?
I'm sure there was an interurban called the north shore (Chicago, Milwaukee & North Shore?) I wonder wether you can get decals for that and whether they would work? Just a thought...
What program are you using on your computer? Most of the commercial word processors allow you to highlight the font size and type in somthing different. Is the font you want a True-type font? those take to being resized much better.
If you are using MS Word, the default list of font sizes stops at 8 - but you can put in smaller number - just type the number 6 in there. Work will go all the way down to 1 (my printer makes them look like blobs of ink, but printed from an Alps and with the help of a magnifying glass you can read it!)
Thanks for the suggestions. I use M S Word and indeed, I replaced the "8" with "6". I printed it out in "Wide Latin", italic #6 font done in dark blue.........and it's perfect. Now,.......How can I get it to print a whole page without repeatedly typing?

copy & paste the line, paste it 3 or 4 more times below, then copy & paste the block of lines & keep repeating with larger & larger blocks till you have a page full.... HTH
Martyn.......You're a genius. Or maybe I'm just technologically retarded as my son keeps saying. Thanks.
462, you look like a Manhattanite like myself. I'm on the Upper Westside. Have you ever tried white decal paper? It may not suit everyone's needs, but it's easier to work with as it is little thicker than regular clear paper.
I live in Queens Johnny, but I worked in Upper Manhattan.......east side....... I have not yet used the decal paper . I have several sheets of dull paper. My problem at the moment is that I can't copy the text in order to make a whole page. If I can transfer the line North Shore Line out of M S Word and into another file maybe I can keep copying it to make a complete page. I'm sure it can be done........somehow.
Hello Railfan462, I too am from Queens, Glendale. I must have missed when you first signed on to trainboard. So to you- A Belated Welcome! <img src=http://www.trainboard.com/sigbreak.gif> Russ
Railfan, I don't know if you are still trying, but we can probably walk you through copying and pasting in MS Word. It is a relatively easy process. Let me know. Norm
