Caught this lashup along the 5 in Anaheim on Monday, with the slug in the middle. I've never seen a slug being used in local duty before - has anyone else seen anything like this in SoCal?

Are you sure it is a slug? It looked like the 2nd and 3rd engines are deadheading to me.

Hmmm... I don't know about the wild west, however, they are regularly used on the CSX in the East (and sometimes NS)

The second unit is definitely a slug - windows painted over and no fuel tank. Also, the UPY number on an ex-Dash 7 help confirm this.

(The third unit was live, I heard it and I have a picture with the heat waves above the exhaust.)

Haronld, yes I know road slugs are not uncommon back east. And I've seen these ex-Dash 7's as yard slugs in Denver. But I used to work next to one of the UP (ex-SP) local lines for several years, that got switched up at this little stretch and I've never seen road slugs in SoCal before.

Which is what made me wonder - is this something new? [IMG]
