Hello all; I have a few Mopac slides taken in the St. Louis, Missouri area during the early 70's. What I need to know is there a way to post slides on this site ? Thanks. Mophead
Hi Mophead .. welcome to Trainboard. We are happy you have joined this happy family of railroad buffs. At this time the only way you can post slides on Trainboard / Rail Images is to scan them first; or, if you have them posted on some other location, enter the URL as a link.
What do I need to scan them in. I've been told that a normal scanner won't work because the slides need back lighting.
Welcome to Trainboard, Mophead. Some scanners have an attachment for slides. Both Ironhorseman and I own Primefilm 1800u slide and negative scanners, which work just fine and are currently on sale at Costco for $99 if you have access to a Costco. Easy to use and good quality.
I picked up a cheap low end Epson Perfection 1260 scanner with attachment for back lighting slides and negs. It does not produce professional grade results like the Nikon line of scanners but still give me great satisfaction resurrecting old memories I can share online.
I use my digital camera to take pictures of the slides and then crop them when I up load them. This link will tell you how.CONVERTING SLIDES TO DIGITAL PICTURES Here is a picture done this way.
My HP Scanjet 3970 was only $99 and has a great built in slide and negative scanner. Love it!!!! Easy installation and very easy to use program. 'Course I use an alternative program for all my cropping, resizing, etc. But the one it comes with will do the job just fine.
I just recently picked up an Epson Scanner with the Slide attachment and done a couple of test with great results. You might check to see if you can get a simular attachment for your scanner. Once you have it scanned you can use RailImages as a way to show them off. Welcome Aboard!!!!!!!
