    Another tongue in cheek question:

    :closedmouth:

I have read numerous times on many n scale forums about manual uncoupling (using a pick) not being 'prototypical'. The complaint is that "Here comes a big ole telephone pole sized skewer outta the sky to uncouple cars."

    YET...

Those same complaining modelers will have a BIG ole hand come outta the sky and hold the first or last car in a string of cars so they can back a locomotive into a coupler hard enough to have it latch...without the string of cars moving away ?

    AND...

    That's 'prototypical' how ?

    Inquiring minds wanna know.

Then there is the folks with the magnetic uncoupling having cars separate magically, or by remote control, and not the figure of a brakeman anywhere near the uncoupling location if on the layout at all. Not proto either. However one can explain away the big hand coming down by stating the Almighty above is a model railroader too and was assigned the head or rear brakeman's duties this operating session.

If a brakeman pulls the cut lever, I consider it prototypical enough. I'm not going to razz the guy if his hand is a little on the large side... I don't like magnets as you don't always uncouple cars in the same spots, but that's just me.

I never had a problem with the "big hand'. But I also like King Kong, Mothra, the big flying turtle (don't remember his name !!!), and "Them" !!! Now, if I could just find "Night of the Lepis" on DVD... :)

This is one of those "what noise annoys" type questions in the same vein as what looks less prototypical - larger size/code rails with spikehead details or smaller size/code rails (glued or soldered to the ties), that appears magically attached without any visible spikeheads?

So... let me see if I understand.
The answer to question #10544... is ... GAMERA?

I'm obviously going to fail the Trainboard test... I would have never guessed that was the answer. ;)

There is something about this thread that makes me want to post to it but I can't think of a single or , double or even triple thing to add.

    Hmmmmmm

    Ok, I have it:

The 'Coupling' Date Has Been Set: May 31st. 2014.
I have 10 weeks to 'derail' this run-away train'
    or to
'Get me to the yard on time'.
I'm gettin married in the um, er, afternoon, (or so I'm told),
Ding Dong the (train), bells are gonna chime
Just get me to the yard, Just get me to the yard
Just get me to the (back), yard on time, (that is where we are getting coupled by the 'Giant Hand of God' reaching down and well the metaphor gets messed up after that.

Disclaimer: I am not entirerly sober as I trip and retrip this, er 'type'.
    Corrections later if deamed necessary.

Well, I like the MTs because they're more expensive and troublesome, which helps me to keep wondering how I ever got started with this.

Godzilla>all :teeth: I said it! I regret nothing!!!

anywho, I'd prefer to use an uncoupling pick when switching or making a cut. I'd use magnets in a passenger terminal as the diaphragms will be in the road of the uncoupling pick.
