I had some time to kill during a business trip to Sileby, so I shot a few pics with my cheapo digital camers. The first moving objects I have taken with it!

First is a DMU leaving Sileby station and heading for Loughborough. It was going away from the camera, and is a bit blurred at the near end.

Next is a high speed DMU coming from Loughborough, towards Leicester

And an HST also heading south

Alan, nice pics, thanks. How much did it cost you to have sunshine? :D

The rail appears to be secured with clips. When was the change from "chaired" rail? Or am I totally confused as to terminology and appearance?

Hank, the rail is secured with clips, I think they are called "pandrol clips", and have been so for quite some time. The change to concrete sleepers (ties) began many years ago, and virtually all track is this type now, certainly all main running lines.

This close up of the front of a DMU in Sileby station shows the clips a little clearer.

The weather is not always so favourable, this shot was taken in the same place a week earlier. Yes, that is snow on the train and track!

This photo was taken over the rail of a footbridge, and under a signal gantry, and shows a train about to leave Sileby station, and the way the 'slow' lines curve away from the 'fast' lines on the right to enter the station.

Thanks Charlie. I really must get out more with my camera, most of my railfanning over the last 20 years has been anywhere but here at home in the UK :(

I will be travelling by train to a model railway exhibition in a few weeks time, and I will definitely be taking my digital camera [IMG]
