I dunno, Matt, that BN engine seems to be missing a few details......like, say, a Gyralite nose light, coonskin.....
I picked this up off ebay to pull around behind the GP 15-1 I bought for my assistant engineer. I plan to update it to more modern and remove the roof walks and redo the end railings.
These are my latest buys. First is a Walthers Burlington Northern covered hopper. Next is a Bowser covered hopper, I still need several more cement hoppers for my layout. I got this Atlas/Kato RS11 for £19, it will be super detailed into Burlington Northern #4190 ex NP unit, the hardest part will be remodeling the fuel tank and air tanks. I got this Atlas Classic RS3 off eBay for £20, this is in pretty rough condition, it ran smoothly but VERY slow, about half the speed of the RS11, after cleaning all the green gunk out of the gears and re applying some lube it runs perfectly, some body work to repair and it is missing an end handrail (which I didn't know until I got it). This will be fully rebuilt into Burlington Northern #4068 This will be the set it runs with (apart from the RS3 will be other way round as it is long hood forward )
Yep, someone used grease instead of Labelle. I've got 4 custom RPP Shelled locos I bought at IRF last month and all 4 have completely seized drive trains due to degraded grease. Thankfully it just takes a little bit of time to clean. They're bullet proof mechs.
Over the past year or so I've been buying up a lot of loose HO cars and locos from a local lady whose husband was a serious modeler and who passed away in 1992. It's all been sitting since that time. She's sold a number of brass models to train shops but the rest has remained available. Prior to today I'd probably picked up 75 assorted locos and maybe 100 cars. Today I picked up 10 boxes of the type used to keep important files only in this case each had 25 or more cars of all descriptions, totaling probably 300 cars. Nothing high end but plenty to fill my railroad, my other railroad, most existing shelf space and two cabinets. Safe to say I'll be putting quite a few up for sale either here or on the auction site. Still trying to get a couple of 4-8-8-4's from her. There is a large stash of Athearn Blue Box stuff that's never run also that I'm working on. Mind boggling all the stuff this man bought over three decades of modeling. Rick H.
Got this Atlas master SD24 off eBay for £23 + £5 postage ($44 total approx), was listed as rough running, turns out it was the lighting circuit board shorting on the metal weight, now runs like a dream
I bought my Christmas present on Saturday - a Rapido GMD-1 in CNR green and yellow. Ever since I saw a pair of those MU'ed at a club open house a few weeks ago, I was in love... The quality is amazing, and it runs smooth as silk - on par or better than my best Atlas and Kato engines. The detail is beautiful. And they have a good sense of humor as evidenced by this excerpt from the manual: Next March their FPA-4 is supposed to come out. They did a 3D scan of CNR 6765 right here at the Exporail museum. That's another apple of my eye...
