Since the disaster happened in 1982, I don't think there were too many FRED's around. I know I've never seen a MP train without a caboose.
No complaints here either. Except that for some strange reason, noone makes decals for MoPac well cars?
colonel i am sorry for being so late with getting in the mix here, no the mp never had any gp60's, but if the merger would have happened the way it should have, they probably would have had them for their stack trains. also i did do the custom paints on the sd40-2's, these were some i did before i got really into detail parts as there are no liftrings and such. and they did run crummies clear past the merger, up finally started putting them on in late 84 and early 85, needless to say that also cut the head and rear brakeman's jobs off thus saving the up money somehow. it seems funny when the merger happend the mp was nearly 2 times larger in size and also revenue than the up but yet the up took over.
Here is a picture of my full fleet of MOPAC locos, Mitch (MOPAC3092) has painted 6 0f my total of 10 locos, The first 6 from left to right are the ones painted by Mitch, they are all either SD40's or SD40-2's including a few snoots. The next two jenks blue SD40's were painted by myself with help from Jason and the last two SD50's I acquired from Flash Blackman.
About a month ago, I lamented that my digital idiot camera would not "autofocus" on my Blue Geeps. I solved that this trip by putting an ATSF flat car in front of it, so it could do the fuzzy focus thing on that instead. Loco is still slightly out of focus. Anyway, here is the 855 kicking cars: A nice older MT offset DD 50' box is getting a shove, and the idiot camera got it in focus, too! [ 26. January 2005, 04:20: Message edited by: LongTrain ]
I want one! The B'mann connie has an oil bunker and appears to be (at least) relettered when compared to the stock #92 that I can buy. What else did you do to it? (pointing me to a link is ok if you already covered that before.)
Other than the plated over oil bunker, not much else. I bought it Undec before they released the MoPac. I wanted an IGN number anyway. The International Great Northern was the MoP line that took over the old Sugar Land Railroad.
Guys, I have an original GP38-2 by Kato and am thinking about painting this into MOPAC my only problem is that it has dynamic brakes. From what I can tell MP never had 38-2's with DB? If this is the case how difficult is it to remove the DB's from the unit?
Paul: Just finished doing the same thing, in my case using a non-DB section from JnJ, although I've made a piece from styrene before for a LifeLike geep (an engine better forgotten) Take a fresh #11 blade and a metal straight edge, make repeated light passes along the bottom of the offending section until you start to cut through. Once you have an initial cut through, insert the tip of the blade and gently rock back and forth (a kind of sawing action) to reach the edge of the peice you want to remove. Once both sides are cut, use a razor saw (either with a miter box or freehand) to cut down from the top to the cuts you made with the knife. A little filing to dress up the edges, and you're ready for the new roof. And then, don't forget the 4 extended exhaust stacks the the MoPac applied. Good luck and enjoy!
