Can anyone tell me if Shay logging engines were ever used in SC? If so, can you tell me what the rail lines that used them was called? Thanks for your help. Gary
Here is a page listing South Carolina logging railroads. It does not list engine locomotive types, but there is a contact email address you could try. I would believe someone in SC used a Shay. http://www.loggingrailroads.com/sc.htm
BoxcabE50, That's one hell of a logging list! Where in the world did you find that? In looking at the time periods of some of those railroads, you would think that some of them would have employed Shays, especially the ones in the upstate nearer to the mountains. Really neat list though! Dean
Dean- Found it purely by accident. Shays were everywhere, especially were there was, but not limited to, any logging. If there were none in SC, that would seem like an aberration.
I agree! And I book marked that page. If Gary doesn't, I might Google some of those railroads and see what comes up. By the looks of it though, doesn't appear that too many of those logging lines were open for very long, though there is plenty of timber here to log. Gary is actually in my MRR club and I talked him into joining the site yesterday. Thanks for finding that site though.. I would have never known such a thing existed!
Here is a site with a listing of all Shays ever built, along with a listing for the original owner by state, a number of Shays were delivered to SC. http://www.shaylocomotives.com/data/dataframe.htm Rick J
