It's always a good day when a DDC ready loco and drop-in decoder make a perfect fit and the test run goes flawlessly... good thing since this previous weekend's to-do list was basically shot to pieces
Mike: It's always a gratifying feekling to have a decoder installation go well. Next time hard wire a decoder in place.... Stay cool and run steam.....
I did do hard wiring on my 3 Lifelikes - I think I'll stick with the drop ins or pre-installed ones, even if it means a few extra bucks!
Nice to hear. Wonder if I'll ever catch up with you. /hmm LLs are hard to do? Guess I'm glad I won't go to DCC yet.
They weren't hard to wire in at all - the hardest part was measuring/cutting the wire to the smallest size due to interior space limitations. It was actually quite fun to do, once. I don't think I'd prefer to do it as an option vs. buy a DCC ready loco. The point is that they just wont run well now (well, at least they don't run as well as the Atlas variety) so it looks like they'll be tossed into the "Bay" with my other Bachmann engines that I have no use for. Of couse I'll list them in the Yellow forum beforehand for those with the gumption and fine tuning skills that wish to take on such a project!
I replaced a drop-in decoder today that I had blown a few months ago. Now I have a full consist (4) of RSC-2s running, instead of just three. Can't wait to pick up the next train out of the yard and see how the consist does up the hill! It's great when things work out as expected. Congrats!
