maybe a good dark primer coat on the inside to go along with the primer on the outer shell.

Or maybe some Black Art Paper like what we used to use in schools many years ago would fit the bill

    Hello Randy,

I noticed on one of your posts on Friday, Oct 2, that you were using Bestine. I have used this myself to get the waxy residue off of some printed models because it was recommended by someone, I just can't remember where or who. I have searched all over the area where I live and can't find it in the stores. I even went to a really old hardware store that has been around a long time but they had never heard of it. So I had to resort to buying it online. I have found it to be very expensive.

I have a couple of questions for you and everyone....
1- Where is the least expensive place to purchase Bestine?
2- Is there a suitable alternative to Bestine?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    I've been buying it direct:

    http://www.realbesttest.com/

    Only $1600.00 for a 55 gallon drum !!

Otherwise they're are a bunch of art supply houses that sell it.

    http://www.misterart.com/adhesives/adhesive-removers/best-test-bestine-solvent-and-thinner.html

They sell paint brushes and other model supplies as well.

    It's not hard to get.

I have my first house in primer now and just received another from Shapeways yesterday. So far they look pretty good, the only hold up is my apparent lack of imagination when it comes to painting and decorating , I'm not Candy Streeter!

Also available on Amazon, at WalMart, etc. The MSDS says it is heptane (doesn't say which isomer). Since it is used as a rubber cement remover/thinner, may also be available at other art supply and stationary stores

I purchased my Bestine from Amazon and can't recall how much but it wasn't that expensive. Problem I find with this liquid is that once you open it; it dissipates quite quickly with the lid on. So I've also read that a mild soap in warm water can also be used and I will be trying this method on my new Building to see if it works equally as well

I recall a conversation earlier this year. Grease cutting dish soap was suggested.

If you want to paint the inside of the houses I'd suggest first coating the inside with the color of the outside. Then you can coat it with a darker color. The darker color could shine through and affect the appearance of the color on the outside. Wallpaper or aluminum foil will make it totally lightproof.

You can clean FUD with dishwashing liquid, just look for the one which advertises with the best way to remove grease. I am planning to buy an ultrasonic bath to vigorously clean parts with soapy water.
The second option is nailpolish remover with acetone (don't use the fancy stuff). You can wipe an object clean with a cotton swab with nailpolish remover.
Another tip is to leave the model a week in the open air, preferably in a warm (not hot) place. I am under the impression the oil evaporates and items take the paint better.
