I have about 25 engines most set in their case. Should they be run once in a while? Or is it ok of them to set in their case and not run.
It is better to run them once in a while to be sure things aren't happening you don't want to happen as they sit, like oil running out of them and possibly affecting the paint. At least inspect them once in a while. Doug
What Doug said. And if you are going to let them sit in the case, don't lie them flat. Stand the jewel case up (as if the loco was running). This way if there is any oil/grease leakage over time, the stuff will be at the bottom of the case on the wheel treads (easily cleaned). Instead of the shell of the loco and other parts bathing in it. If the loco was properly maintained, letting it sit in the jewel case long term won't harm them.
