I was going through some old 1970-1985's slides, and I noticed that I have a few shots of several boxcars and a engine or two.

I didn't remember taking these pictures so do not know where I took them. Anyway they are being transfered from slides to a CD, and when I get them back I will post to RailImages.

I just found a web site site about Seattle & North Coast but it doesn't say much. Here is that site: http://www.trainweb.org/rosters/SNCT.html

Was wondering if anybody could provide me with more information.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Steve-

    Try this:

    http://www.trainweb.org/snch&ts/

Unfortunately, our site has not been updated in a long time. There is much additional data to add. In hand for years. But he's not done so. I believe there was some sort of trouble with the site, which prevented access to make the changes. :tb-sad:

Please post your scans when available!

I spent some time in that area this summer. Wishing I could have stayed there! The memories came flooding back. I feel sorry for area residents. They have no idea what was lost. Eventually, they'll be paying through the nose to put something back in!

After looking at the site that you provided, I think it most likely was Port Angeles. I have a sister that lives in Forks, and when I would visit her there, I would always drive to Port Angeles to take pictures of the planes and particular the engines and the boxcars that I saw.

Will post the slides when I get them back around Friday. I think I have three being developed.

    Steve,

I spent over a year working in that area from Port Townsen all the way to the end of the line at Port Angeles. I the paper office at Port Angeles the is a large black and white picture of the yard that once stood next to the office.

West of Sequim there is a park called Railroad Bridge Park. The bridge from the Milwaukee Road days is still there and is being used as a walk way for a path.

Lots of other neat stuff too.

    Seattle & North Coast

The Seattle & North Coast was an attempt to keep the Milwaukee Road line in operation after it was shut down in 1980. There wasn't enough traffic to keep the Seattle & North Coast solvent and the line was abandon about fifteen or so years ago. The track has been taken up too. The car float pier is still intact in Seattle to my knowledge.

Actually the story is somewhat different. Negotiations to purchase were under way in 1979, before the Milw left. There were some questions about how it was managed. Money and more... At that time, there was business which might have supported the operation. In late 1984 the bankruptcy court ordered S&NC dissolved, and in 1985 assets were liquidated to repay creditors. With the timber industry in that area pretty well extinguished, the S&NC probably would not have survived many years more anyhow.

Afterward, there was a brief operation by a company named the Olympic Railroad. But barging cars to only serve the PT mill was not financially possible. OLYR still exists today, owns a batch of freight cars.

Barge landings at both ends have been partially dismantled. From what I am told, a few rails are still in the mill at PT. Only the yard tracks near Pier 27 (Seattle) remain in use today.

Well I got the CD back today. I have upload the pictures to railimages. For whatever reason I can not seem to attach those pictures to this posting, so please go to my railimages and you will see them there.

The two SNCT engine pix are Bayside Yard, in Port Angeles. The box cars look like perhaps Albina Yard in Portland?
