Got my first pair of new UP SD70AH-T4's on an eastbound loaded coal train in SE Cedar Rapids today. UP 3025 and 3022, waiting for westbound traffic to clear #2 track near Bertram, IA. Two features make the loco different from the SD70AH--1]The windshield is angled. 2]Radiator wings supposed to be a bit smaller......or is it larger.
Beauty's!! Up here in Seattle, basically at the end of a long branchline, we only see the beaters and old, dirty units. Nice to see something clean from Uncle Pete!
And I like the look of the old "Centennial" windshield too! I think it's the same style as the old F45/FP45 as well.
The teardrop windows aren't quite as pronounced as on the old full width nose units and the radiator is bigger. UP had put a stop on units due to some teething problems. I heard deliveries started back up last week. So I expect you'll see more. Most are likely join their GE counterparts on the I5 corridor. Sent from my SM-T377V using Tapatalk
Question of taste. Myself I prefer the straight windshield, such as on the "true" SD70ACe/M2s. But it's a nice engine anyway. Dom
