I was inspecting my SD90s on the weekend and thought how hard would it be to fit the trucks from the SD90 to the SD60. After an inspection the SD90 truck is considerably larger in the gear tower and width. If I modified the SD60 I believe I could get it to fit. Has anyone else considered this modification?
I'll try and have some tips on this later, but with out even looking at the SD60 or SD90 trucks, I can tell you that the SD90 has larger wheels (something like 44"ers) so the side frame would look very funny on the SD60. More later...
Craig, Would the gearing match up if you kept the wheel sets from the 60, or can you just switch sideframes with a little modification so the gear towers stay the same Just some thoughts even though I don't own any of either type.
I believe they are 45" wheels on the 90/43. This being so, what is the wheel diameter of the SD70MACs? They have radial trucks as well. Otherwise, a swap out of wheelsets and gears may be the trick, provided the gearbox isn't too large on the Kato truck. Just some thoughts, Gary. Appendum - just regauged the Colonel's SD90/43's trucks and looking at them against the SD60's there isn't much scope for change outs. I stopped short of stripping the wheelsets to their core parts and transposing them with the SD60's gears, etc., but think there is little that can be swapped across. Even the truck sideframes are sufficiently different as not to be interchangable. G. [ 28 June 2001: Message edited by: Gats ]
