I am planning on k-bashing an n scale atlas sd60 to a sd45t2 using a JnJ shell. I had 2 questions I need to answer before I go on.
    1. What is the color mix to make KCS gray, or can i buy it right off of the shelf?

    2. Is there a book or something i can get to show the decal locations?

Your help and input is greatly appreciated as always!! :D :D :D :D

My guess would be Floquil's SP Lark Light Gray, but I have asked the folks at KCSNotes, so hopefully I'll get a correct answer soon- if I do, I'll pass it along here.

I'd love to see some SD45T2's, but don't know the correct color scheme. :(

Thanks for the info. frisco! I know I had been scouring the web and found quite a few pictures & I know that they appear to be the same standard KCS gray, but I hadn't ever really been able to track down what color that is. chessie, there are quite a few pictures out on the web in different places. I did a yahoo search on each engine number and got pictures of almost every one (4500-4509). i just typed in kcs 4500, searched, kcs 4501, etc. Railimages had quite a few, but the yahoo search found almost all of them much faster than digging through all of the albums. Thanks again!

I was told by a guy who is a KCS modeler down in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metrosprawl that there are at least 15 different shades of gray, depending on which leasing company painted the diesel. I would take a look at a KCS model at the hobby shop (my guess is that Floquil SP Lark Light Gray would work), and go from there.

As for pics of the 4500 class, you're right about Railimages. I would also check George Elwood's Fallen Flags site for pics as well.

Good luck, and please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks frisco! I ordered the shell this weekend (Troy only had a seconds one (bubble in sill plate, but that's another skill-honer for me :D ). It'll probably take me a month or so to get it painted and everything, then i'll have to get the handrails, etc. I'll try and add pictures as i progress. Any suggestions on how to do the safety striping on the handrails?

    Thanks again!!!
