We have started to post photos and info about our upcoming SD45 on the AZL Forum web site.
First AZL SD45 prototype
That is a very good looking locomotive! I would love to turn into a d&rgw unit ;-)
Any idea of when the release might be? This should be a very popular locomotive.
Is this a plastic release then? It seems there was a brass AZL SD45 back in the early 2000s. I saw a BN SD45 at Caboose Hobbies in Denver in about 2004/5. It was at least $600, hence why I passed on it... :/
We are hoping for late summer. Testing of first prototype has been excellent. Yes, this is an injection locomotive.
You're going to sell a zillion of them........well, maybe not quite a zillion, but I'll be helping the numbers. Great addition to Z scale.
Hans, the UP Engine yard (the Ztrack advert) got an update to add more track due to the past release. The SF/ATSF/BNSF was easier, but the SP yard doesn't exist - yet. They are just 'concentrated' in the big end yard.
Guess I'll have to figure out where and how to make it happen before NTS in August
Woo-Hooooooooo!! Finally, and affordable SD45!! I'll take mine in Milwaukee Road, please!
Great news!! I love that loco!
Definitly true. I've a batch of them and they're great locos.
Furthermore AZL had made a high short hood sample wearing Southern Ry's paintscheme.
But as they were brass using a 8mm Faulhaber coreless motor, hood was too wide of about 8 scale inches / 20 scale centimeters. As well as their SD40-2s and Tunnel Motors.
I hope the new sample's hood will be with the correct or very close to correct width of their other plastic models (SD70/75, GP38-2, GP7/9, GP30). When carefully watching the new locomotive's picture, I've the feeling this goal will be reached.
We are finally ready to release our first injection SD45. First out is Great Northern in Orange and Green colors. The GN will be followed by a Santa Fe SD45. Many more road names to come. And lots of individual details like a high hood version.
Sincerely, Hans (AZL)
Nice on the high hood. That will be big.
Hans, you need to talk to your supplier, the GN colors don't look right, same as the F3. That's not Omaha Orange and Pullmann Green. The scheme might be right for the Hustle Muscle because it's was re-painted using BNSF colors. Apart from that: Great, new release, more stuff for kit bashing and paint stripping!
Great news regarding the 45s. I'll be watching for the UP version
Would love to see a Southern Rail version!
See Rob's youtube contribution: Great looking SD45 at 1:26 and 4:48.
Nice! Thank you!
Great lookin' SD45, can't wait to see a Milwaukee road version!! One question-will it come with a plow pilot like some of the other AZL locos???
Would also be nice to see a PRR version as they received a shipment and operated them before the disaster i.e Penn-Central. They and the remaining order served the PC into Conrail. While they were not without serious problems, for modeling purposes they make a valuable addition to the Z roster.
Yes each loco comes with an optional pilot or plow. It is under the packaging insert.
