I've been trying to find out about odd wreck rebuilds by various railroads. I heard that MP SD40 3083 operated without a cab in 1972, but repairs were later completed - the same situation as U30C 3319: http://www.trainweb.org/screamingeagle/loco_oddball.html However, this site doesn't list 3083; I learned about it from http://utahrails.net/all-time/up-x-mp-3.php#sd40-mp3070 Anyway, I wondered if anyone had pictures of this unit.
unfortunatley i have no pics of it however it never ran without a cab, it was wrecked and a windowless sheetmetal cab was installed, later part of 1973 a new spartan cab was installed on the unit.
The best I can find is a mention in the EuDaly book that it was "wrecked 1972, outshopped 4/5/72 with sheet metal windowless cab, standard cab added a short time later." Can find no pictures on Elwood, Screaming Eagles or the MPHS site. Maybe they hid it well?
