I just bought my kato loco yesterday and just realized that the couplers installed on the loco don't work with the couplers on my atlas rolling stock. The couplers needed for the loco to work with the rolling stock came in a little bag with the loco.

How do you change the couplers from the ones on the loco to the spare ones.

    Thanx in advance.

You left one thing out Alan. Make sure the flat brass strip is installed to act as a spring. If you don't, the Rapido coupler will just "flop" around. [IMG] You might think about investing in some MicroTrains or the New Atlas Accumate Couplers. Those Radpido's will do the job until you switch over, but man are they DINOSAURS! [IMG]

No problem Al, I just remember while I was reading your post. I'm 100% MicroTrains too, but it took me a few years to get there! [IMG] You'll get there someday YOYO10!

Just another point, yoyo, it came to me while reading Brent's post above. You will one day want to progress to Microtrains couplers, and to do this retrospectively will cost a bundle! so start now and change them as you acquire new stock [IMG]

More equipment is now, and will be in the near future, supplied with knuckle couplers and the Rapido will die, anyway, I think [IMG]

As Alan suggested, a progressive switch to Micro-Trains couplers is easiest on your wallet. My model railroad budget is (and always has been) very small, so major purchases have to be planned out, and if possible be spread out over time. When I switched over, I first switched couplers on all of my locomotives. Next, I created a couple of "transition" cars, with one Micro-Trains truck and one Rapido truck. After that, I slowly replaced the trucks on the remaining rolling stock one bulk package at a time. I too, am now "Rapido-free", and can easily replace trucks on new rolling stock as soon as it is bought. Now, if I can just scrape up enough to get a couple of those spine cars from Alan [IMG].
