The SCL was the only railroad to purchase the BQ23-7 locomotive. I guess it was the first modern quarters cab on a US railroad?

I remember when these came out. There were photos, etc., in railfan publications. Guess they didn't take hold. I wonder why? Thoughts?

I guess they weren't "ergonomically sound" [IMG] I can't remember why they weren't a bigger hit.

Looking at the view of SBD 5132- Is it actually that sunbleached? [IMG]

Either sunbleached or poor paint... especially in the old Family Lines days, virtually no two units were painted the exact same color or shade; even if they were, they aged differently [IMG]

I really liked the Family Lines paint scheme - but not on that locomotive

If I understand it correctly the BQ series was an attempt at cuting costs by eliminating the caboose and placing the entire crew in the cab. From what I have read they were initially loved by crews, until a few accidents proved they were not as safe as other variants. After a time the conductors did not like giving up their Caboose and living with the hoggers, my how times have changed.

Interesting part of RR history! Now many RR's have wide-nosed cabs...
