    Greetings all [IMG]

okay, I was sitting there last night, with my Peco scissors crossover in N gauge, thinking about the wiring and how to change all the polarities in the unit, all 8 of them when inspiration struck and i did a web search.

I found a link on Loys Toys http://www.loystoys.com/peco-about-crossovers.html about the scissors which recommended using an auto reverser on 2 of the frogs to achieve the results I was looking for... but..... (theres always a but [IMG] )

I was under the impression, perhaps misguided, that for an auto reverser you needed a section that was long enough for the train to fit into.. in my case, all rolling stock has resistor wheelsets for various reasons.. and wiring 2 frogs with a total length of less than a loco truck is deffinately shorter than the longest, or even shortest train I will be using.

Has anyone used the system outlined on Loys pages at all????

To me it seems a very simple and elegant solution, but my previous readings are raising a warning flag in my mind which I would like to allay:)

    Thanks in advance

Graham, You are correct that most reversing units require a block longer than the longest train to be run, however Loy's makes one which does not require this. I am not familiar with it as I don't use them, but I think it requires some gaps which you'll need to check on. I do know that it doesn't work with locos which don't have power pick up on both lead wheels, such as pilot trucks on most steam (in HO anyway, don't know about N). Since you read this on Loy's site, i'm sure he was talking about his unit. If the webpage didn't make clear how to install the unit you could email him for info. Sorry I can't help more.

    Gary, greetings [IMG]

Thanks very much for the info, it's helping it all drop into place and making me realise that I may actually have grasped some of the fundamentals.

At the moment all my stock is modern, which will eliminate the problems of non-powered loco wheels, but I do have plans for some steam specials, and had alrady decided that pony wheels or non-pickup wheels would have pick-ups added before running. I am a firm believer in all wheel pick-up, especially in N [IMG]

Thanks again, and I will get a couple of these units and hopefully report back when installed to prove the issue one way or the other.

    Regards
