I have a regular flatbed scanner...(Microtek). What type of accessory do I need to scan my old slides?? It came with this really whimpy thing-a-ma-jig....I have no idea what they expected me to scan the slides with...

You need a light source to put above the slides and a high resolution to be able to clearly blow the small slides up. I have an Olympus ES-10 slide scaner that I got for cheap, and they can usually be found on eBay for reasonable prices. Here's an example from my scanner...

Thanks for replying...I presume this would attach to the type of scanner I have? In other words, I don't have to buy their model that adapts to their scanner?

Yes, that's right, you'd need to get one for your scanner model, assuming it can accept one. If there's not one available for your scanner, I'd suggest finding a used dedicated film scanner. They much better than transparency adapters for flatbeds since they're designed to scan slides and negs specifially.

Brian or group...when you said you purchased a slide scanner cheap..where did you get it. I have seen them on ebay...for anywhere from $150.00 to 500+. Where did you get yours? I see that new, they go for 400 or so...or even 1000 +++

    Thanks Mike

    Mike:

I got mine second hand from a friend who was replacing it. Most large photography stores will have a stock of used scanners, including a few online. eBay would probably be as good a place as any to find a scanner.
