Hey all- Has any one heard of these guys before? https://www.scaletrains.com/ And secondly, is this thing real? https://www.scaletrains.com/collections/rivet-counter-n-big-blow-turbine I did a search and not much came up, but if it does exist, I have some extra cash to add this to my collection!
They're very real. I got some refrigerated container from them, very nice. They've been around about a year. I know some people that have reserved these already. OC Engineer JD for one. They were at the NSE convention in KC with samples. Really nice!
They had samples of the N-scale Big Blow at Trainfest this weekend. I didn't take pics, but the models looked impressive to me. This will be offered in several road #'s, so the UP guys better start saving up!
I ordered a set of the HO Union Pacific water tenders last summer and I think they are amazing. This was for a display with the Athearn Challenger #3985. I have pre-ordered a couple of the turbines. I look forward to comparing them to the brass set. From everything I have seen and heard ScaleTrains is doing very nice models and I look forward to their future offerings.
It's all real. I know one of the principals in the company, and he's a great guy who worked in sales for a hobby distributor for several years and (along with his partners) is trying to bring the best product possible into the market. Samples of the N-scale Big Blows were at Indy for the National Train Show, and they are simply exquisite. It's a good thing I don't model the UP, or I'd be a couple of thousand dollars poorer since I'd probably get them all. John C.
If you want a good introduction to the company, Trainmasters TV has a set of free videos they made with them to document the startup process. Very neat stuff and a lot of info about model train manufacturing.
