Does Scalecoat II make SP Dark Grey and Scarlet? I found them in Scalecoat I but I am going to paint a SP C44-9CW in plastic or can I just use the Scalecoat I paint?

    Marshall:

They don't make either color in their Scalecoat II line. You can use Scalecoat I on plastic, just be sure to apply it in light coats to prevent any reaction between the plastic and the paint solvents.

I personally made the switch to acrylics over 10 years ago and haven't looked back at solvent based paints since.

Thanks for the info on Scalecoat. Since you have switched what brand of paint do you use and how well does it work?

I use Badger MODELflex acrylics and I highly recommend them. I get better finishes with MODELflex than with any other paint I have used in 20+ years of custom painting.

The biggest thing to keep in mind if you try acrylics is to take your time and get used to the differences in spraying them compared to solvent based paints. The biggest difference is to always apply acrylics in light coats to avoid runs. I normally start at one point and work my way completely around the model before starting a second coat. Under most circumstances, by the time I have applied one coat I can immediately start over on the second coat and so on till I have an acceptable finish.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
