Just curious, I was reading about Santa Fe's SWBLW "Beep." Intresting Locomotive, as of 2003 she was still running around Topeka shops. so what I am wondering, is she still around? and is their any plans to preserve herwhe she is retired? I model the NP, but I have thought about kitbashing the old "Beep," and of corse the old CN "Sweep" some time in the future.
She lives: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=196205 All North American Class 1s retired their Alco, FM and Baldwin power years ago. And even all the repowerings of those. Except this.
I'm thinking that I saw Allister over on the Atlas forum do a kitbash of this...I don't think I'm imagining things.
Hey randy, I searched for that tread, and cound't find anything, you got a link by any chance. I got a idea on how I am going to pull this one off, but I want to see how others did it first.
Beep Beep Here's the link, and yes I did do this in 2005 and it was not easy. Altering the shell was the easiest bit and the hardest part was altering the MP15DC chassis to fit and cutting off the molded in metal weight that the fuel tank fits over. The handrails aren't well done and it's been sitting in it's box waiting for me to redo them. I did the earlier version of the Beep, quite a few modifications were done latterly (remote control etc) Atlas Model Railroad Co. - BEEP anyone? Cheers Alister
Alas, the "Beep" is in dead storage in Topeka now, a victim of the downturn of traffic. Most likely, she'll be retired.
That is some sad news. Let's hope the shop folks take mercy on her and make her a shop switcher or something.
It doesn't look like this has been updated. BNSF 1460 the "Beep" has been donated to the Barstow museum next to the Harvey House. Although I didn't see it when I was there last monday, its somewhere in Barstow to be delivered to the museum site. David in Az
BEEP at WARM The BEEP is scheduled to arrive at the Western America Railroad Museum in Barstow on June 30. It will be parked out front along with the UP9950 (SD40-2), the Santa Fe 95 (FP45), and the GE 44 tonner.
