ATSF "Santa Fe" GP40's...Yes, they did have them...

    Thanks to RoyalBlue, I was right about the Santa Fe having some GP40's! They leased them from the C&O-B&O...left them in C&O-B&O Blue and Yellow and renumbered them with Santa Fe style Numbers under the cab windows. Some neat photos can be found on the B&OHS web site. The number style is the spotting feature! :cool:

    Yes, the Santa Fe leased B&O/C&O GP40s on several occaisions. Santa Fe owned but one GP40. This unit was originally EMD Loaner #21 in 5/69, and then TP&W #1000 in 10/69. When the Santa Fe merged TP&W on 1/1/84 the TP&W #1000 became AT&SF #3461. It was later rebuilt in the San Bernardino Shops and emerged as GP40M #2964. The unit was derated to 2500 horsepower to match the GP35s it worked with. The unit was wrecked 1/28/88 at Pico Rivera, CA and retired.
