I will be in Sand Patch July 25th, 26th and 27th.

I will be meeting up with John (EM7600) sometime during those days.

Anyone else in the area that would like to have a get together please speak up!

Are there any good railfanning spots in W. Va. near Sand Patch?
    Let's say within 40-50 miles?

Oh, my daughter wants a Gateway laptop for college.
Sounds like even though some problems were had with repairs, that's nothing uncommon in this house. Everything that gets repaired here seems to BUST all over again!
I like the fact that they gave you a brand new one.
Good luck with it and don't burn this one up! HEH HEH HEH!

    JT,
Thats kewl! :D I'll be looking forwards in it! Hopefully I got the ole layout at the station running then! Being I got my home layout in a diaster area! HA I'm adding on to it still... Alittle at a time as funds and time permits!

As for the new computer it works alot faster and is better so far then the old was!

Burn it up???? The only way thats going to happen is if it crashes and well the additive of gasoline and a match OUTSIDE! :D Then off to Dell I'm headed!

    You got it Mike.
Maybe Thursday afternoon/evening but I'm not sure. Don't have plans for a long run to Altoona or whatever yet. So, Thursday after we get there would be good so far.
You guys know any hotspots in West Va.?
There's a little shortline that comes outta the line through Cumberland, just east of Cumberland, but the nearest thing I could find on it was the engine house that's maybe 3 hours from Meyersdale. It's the.........WORK BRAIN! WORK!..............South Branch Railroad.......? The connection with CSX is about 49 miles from Meyersdale, but the engine house is down below Romney..........that's pretty far. Romney is 2 hours, and with those mountain roads, another 1 or more to the town where the engine house is. I'm not sure it would be worth traveling 6 hours to find nothing of great eye candy value.
Just looking for another interesting spot to say I have been to and have seen some trains. Ya know?

You guys sure you want more New Yorkers down there?

Brain, that sounds good. Are you familiar with the area?
We'll need a place to meet.
Hey, let's meet at John's house and play with his new computer!
Seriously, without anyone wanting to get lost here, maybe we should meet at the station in Meyersdale and we can go off from there all together after seeing the layouts!

What size tee shirts do you guys wear?

Guys, what do you think about meeting at the station? It's a good landmark in a town instead of trying to find the right spot at Sand Patch. I mean some of us aren't all that familiar with the area. Although the first car with Ohio plates that passes will have us chasing it down the road. I hope it isn't the wrong person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA! HA! HA!

I have to toss this by my cousins too so we have a few hours to do this.

My buddy Louie the cop is coming along. Wait until you meet him. You talk about a real New Yorker. My cousins loved him the last time we were there. He's hysterical.
My cousins and Louie are both from Long Island so they bonded right away!
    We had a blast!

Oh Brian, maybe someday we can meet up in Ohio too. I'm often in Piqua, about 100 miles south of Toledo. A straight line down I 75. Maybe Ed could join us too.

I might be up for this... That's right at the beginning of my break, so assuming I get my car in order for the trip... I was already talking to BrianS about a possible trip up there.

    Guys,
I'd say that the Meyersdale Western Maryland station is the best meeting spot! Its now known as the "Meyersdale Historical Society" and is right on Main Street! Along with my home! :D I live like dirrectly across the street from it!

JT, See what Pete and Sandra says and let me know...

Mike, I'll keep you posted on it all we'll see where this road to know where leads us! :D [IMG]

    No kidding Brian!

I usually hang out by the siding with the hoppers behind the Miami East Mall near Garbry Road.
Also once in a blue moon, near I 75 at the north end of Piqua.
Behind the mall is a safe place where I don't get into any trouble trespassing.
Just to the south by Statler Road is a good spot too but hard to park the car there.
The scenery is a little nicer and the passing siding is right there too and sometimes you can catch two trains passing one another.

I'll tell you that Cincy was the ultimate Ohio railfanning spot I have been to yet.
I did once venture up to Waterville to ride the Toledo, Lake Erie and Western and got a cab ride on the return trip back to Waterville. Not only was that great, but I recognized the old Erie Lackawanna cars they use as soon as I drove into the parking lot! Years ago I chased the 1218 way out in Circleville too. And Sidney was always a favorite spot too!

Last year I drove to the Buckeye Central Scenic in Hebron.
I've been to the trolley museum in Worthington. and drove up to Ohio City to see the Spencerville and Elgin. I've been to Lima many times, Marion also and many other places. I also had a cab ride on the Indiana and Ohio out of Lebanon.

But the best thing I ever did was that I rode on a GTW piece of maintence equipment over the trestle in Quincy! On the roof that is!

I also rode the White Water Valley in Connersville, Indiana too.

I love the area as you can tell!

But anyway, we have to make a day for sand patch. Which day would be better for everyone?

    It's only a month away! I can't wait!

And I work MoW on the TLE&W! Haven't been up there yet this summer, but from what I hear they have a lot of work for me to do...

Do you know an engineer name Vic?
I think that was his name.
He had two youngs sons with him.
Damn that must be almost ten years ago!

I think I might come as I need a short vacation and a first railfanning trip outside my tri-county area.
Would Frostburg be the closest place to get a room? How far is sand patch from Meyersdale?
I can leave before dawn on friday morning and be there before 9am if necessary. I am also up for the Western Maryland trip on Saturday if possible but I have to be home by Sunday early evening. I can drive my pickup and have room for one more, or the wife's suv and have room for 3 more so anyone let me know if you need a ride for this outing. [IMG] [IMG]

From the town of Meyersdale, Sand Patch proper is probably 5-10 miles, but staying at Sand Patch is pretty boring. There are a lot of other places out on the line to shoot, as well.
