Question for SAL fans: GP9 #1979. I know that SAL had four late body model GP9's; #1926 - 1929. Question is; they also had a wrecked GP7 rebuilt as a GP9, #1979.

From photos available to me, it appears that #1979 was similiar to 1926-1929 - is this so.

I'll have to dig around some of my books and see if I can find a picture...

Finally found the best photo I've seen yet of #1979, by Mr. Calloway in 07/65. Looks close enough to my LL P2K's, so looks like I've got another SAL GP-9 in HO.

SAL GP9 #1979 was on EMD order #5611 Serial #25717 built in October 1959. It was among the last GP9s built by EMD at LaGrange. Data from A J Kristopans EMD Serial Number webpage.

SSW9389 - Thanks for the information. I suspected that 1979, being a wreck rebuild had a late model body, but measure twice - cut once!

Warren Calloway had a ground level shot of this unit and I suspected that it was a late model, an overhead shot by J. Parker Lamb confirmed it, so the P2K GP-9 will do nicely for #1979.

    Again, Thanks.
