I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you guys to contact Atlas and let them know that you would like to see their upcoming GP40 done in SAL's Jolly Green Giant paint scheme. I have contacted them as have several of my SAL buddies. The more folks that contact them the better our chance are at seeing the model done. Contact Paul Graf at paul@atlasrr.com and let him know that you would like to see JGG GP40's from Atlas.

    Thanks.

    Denis ,
I agree with you on the representation aspect of the Southeast, but why do you think so many Manufactuers negate the Southeast as a primary source for units and schemes? I know that the N&W had at least 35 different types of units(diesels alone) and many different schemes- 8 to be exact. Likewise look at SAL, numerous diesels and schemes- JGG, Pullman Green, Mint, Citrus- and others exist, but why don't we get a fair shake , only after 2nd and 3rd runs do we find what we need, example of this would be the P2K GP7, we had SCL, and little or no other roads, although many roads owned them, I think its time for manufacutuers to wake and smell the Orange blossoms, Hamburgers(herald), and tuxedos... heres to hoping and emailing. Have a good one , Justin

    Justin,
I think things are slowly turning around. In HO, Red Caboose and P2K are doing good things with the southeastern roads. In N scale, SAL is doing pretty well, surprisingly [IMG] . No doubt, there's a ways to go though.

I think manufacturers are going with what they think will sell well - UP, SP, ATSF, Pennsy, etc. However, the N scale modern diesels in CSX seem to sell well and are difficult to find after their initial release. NS doesn't seem to sell quite as well, but that's just a perception.

Overall, southeastern modelers are getting a better selection. Also, with Alps printers and more southern road decal releases, it's easier to custom decorate!

I have already lobbied Paul for the N scale GP40's in JGG, as well as black. If (when) Atlas does a re-run of the N GP40's, he can run a bunch of SBD predecssors (WoA, A&WP, etc.)

If Atlas listens and actually produce an N SAL GP-40 in JGG, then I know where the rest of my annual train budget is going [IMG] !

Thanks guys for the support on the Atlas GP40's in SAL paint. There are some other roads that need our support as well. SCL, RF&P and Seaboard System.

With regard to the other smaller roads mentioned, GA, WofA and A&WP, I simply don't think that there is a large enough market for those roads to warrant Atlas doing them. I may be wrong but I don't think so. I have been working with manufacturers for many years and have a pretty good idea of what stands a decent chance to get done.

As far as an N scale GP40 goes, man, for those who work in the smaller scale that would be GREAT. I suggest that you guys lobby Paul at Atlas and let him know that you would like to see them done in N scale as well.

While on the subject of N scale. I see where Red Caboose is doing some nice SAL stuff in N scale. It appears that there will be N scale SAL express cars and X29 style cars as well.

    Take care guys.

Yes, I doubt there would be a run of W&A, GA and associated roads... but it never hurts to ask, does it? If you want to fast foreward past the Seaboard era, there are an awful lot of schemes that could be done in CSX-related connections. Yes, I'd like to see non-dynamic RF&P GP40's (and 40-2's), but again, based on the limited appeal of the prototype, doubt that they would be produced by Atlas. But at least the model itself is being produced, so we have a solid starting point in N scale for painting and detailing.

Actually, RF&P has a pretty good following and I think we will see the HO scale GP40 done in that paint scheme, sooner or later. Go ahead and try to find RF&P E units and GP's that were done by Proto2000! Sure, they show up from time to time on eBay but they are relatively rare out there. They have far more appeal than the Georgia Group of roads do. The appeal comes from the fact that the RF&P WAS THE N-S connection for the majority of the traffic from the SE to the NE. They had tons of connections with major roads as well and RF&P power could been see virtually anywhere in the SE because of that.

Now, on to some stuff in N scale. It has come to my attention that Red Caboose will be doing their X29 car, not 100% correct for the SAL, in SAL express paint and also in the Route of the Silver Meteor paint.

    Take care.

Guys, with the arrival of the GP40's, finally, lets get on the bandwagon and lobby Atlas, big time, for SAL, RF&P and SCL units. While it would not hurt to lobby for the smaller roads as well I think we need to concentrate our efforts on the roads that have a better than decent chance to get done. paul@atlasrr.com will do.

Our requests to Paul have NOT fallen upon deaf ears. Paul has stated that the N scale demand for the SD60's exceeded their original projections, while the interest level in their upcoming N Trainmasters has very much exceeded their expectations as well. Due to this demand, he stated it would make it easier to decide to produce less likely models or roadnames (I can't remember which). Months ago, in the Atlas Forum, it was asked about future paint schemes of SD50/60's, since there were so many more roads/schemes that could have been done, but weren't. Originally Paul stated that there were no future runs planned, but with in the last month, a similar question was posed and he stated they would be considered for a future run.
In summary, if the interest level is demonstrated, manufacturers are more likely to make the items available.
