2004 : European Vacation - Switzerland Once back in Luzern, Switzerland I will get some time to stop by the train station.
I was just watching that last video again. I began wondering about such as the mostly unlined tunnels. They must have excellent geologic stability. BTW- Great choice of music.
The rock this mountain is made of is some serious touch stuff which is why you also see so little for rock slides, etc. when looking down into the valley...
2004 : European Vacation - Switzerland The first depot in Luzern was build in 1856 and was replaced in 1896 with a much larger structure. On the morning of 5 February 1971 fire broke out in the staff quarters of station. The building burnt fiercely, and within an hour the cupola had collapsed destroying the station frontage and concourse. All that is left of that depot is what I posted earlier. They are extra wide doors. I'm not 100% certain if this was a Baggage Car or setup for Wheelchair access...
They look to be roughly similar to those I recall from years ago, on some (pre-Amtrak) US passenger trains. I wonder if they might be set up to load and unload such as bicycles?
2004 : European Vacation - Switzerland This was one of my favorite trains I saw in the station
Europeans, Swiss especially, are obviously proud of their trains and rail travel in general. The station and both trains appear spotless.
