Blazing along at 10mph...the Henderson (NV) local (LJM048) I caught it near the end of this 9 mile branch today...with overnight rain..the jointed rail (probably at least 50yrs old...) turns a nice rusty brown...

What's happening along that branch, that ribbon rail would be laying alongside? Is there enough business to merit such an expense? Or is this line going to see some commuter type adaptation?

    Well Boxcab...

Eventually the local county transportation commission wants to convert the line to a light rail type of commuter line...but all the NIMBY"s along the ROW, are against it...so it could be years, if at all, before the line gets passenger service...

Currently the branch runs 6 days a week...with a titanium metal producer, getting about 15-20 loads per day...and a similar amount of loads/empties out...

Great picture and I like the track comparison the best. Looks like ribbon rail going in so no abandonment?

    Hey Flash...

The line probably will not be abandoned...the primary shipper will be producing titanium for many years to come...and even "IF" the commuter line is built...it won't be until 2010-2013 the earliest..
