My main layout is, or rather is in the works, and is N scale but I got an old Rokuhan Cortina layout to have something to run my few Z sale items on. Just got the track and will begin fitting that to the layout and have a couple of buildings to put together too. Anyway, there is a spot on the layout for a vehicle bridge and I do not have one, but I did have an old Atlas kit I was not using so decided to modify it a little. It is N scale, but this is not meant to be perfectly accurate, just enjoyable. These are pics of the before and after versions.
cbs, Nice job fitting the bridge into the space! Looks like it was made for the spot. Look forward to seeing the whole layout! Scott
Thank you! Just started this as a spare time (?what is that?) project. Here are a few more pics if interested. Overall shot of the base layout with track roughly placed. I didn't care for the basic oval bridge supports available so I used spare pieces from the N viaduct and made new ones along with some other custom pieces that need some tweaking. Thanks for looking...
Been working on this off and on and haven't got much done. I did build my first Z scale plastic kit (Faller station) which I will discuss below, but first I have an issue I would like some guidance on. I connected and fit the track, soldered two feeders and made one custom length of track using the same method outlined on the Fifer site for N scale track. All fits well and runs fine EXCEPT my Marklin trains cannot seem to go over the turnouts without derailing. I can tell there is a high spot somewhere but my eyes haven't identified it yet. Doesn't appear they are picking the points. Any help in where I should look first or how to improve the turnout would be appreciated. Now, the station. I will NEVER complain about how small N scale parts are again! My 71 year old eyes and fingers got a real workout. I knew I would need a magnifier but did not realize it needed to be something like a micron microscope.... You guys working in this scale and getting the magnificent detail you are deserve way more kudos than I have offered previously. This is how it turned out after a little bit of weathering to take the shine off. Only used some chalk and a Q-Tip. My next kits will be an Archistories mill with water wheel then a two stall engine house.
Thank you Kurt.. I mentioned two kits for my next projects, but came across this and couldn't resist it. Maybe I am a little bit of a psycho to try and paint and detail it!
Interesting, I haven't seen one yet. When I get to painting this I plan to try a mother silhouette in the upper left window. Maybe a few hundred birds on the roof. Nah, wrong movie...
While Archhistories is the Cadillac of Cardboard; don't overlook the variety that this shop offers, and their relative pennies to procure. many pages of different building types to consider! https://customzscales.com/collections/urban-downtown
I finally got back to this layout and finished assembling the mill and set it in place to check the fit. Had to dremel out a bit of the prefab layout to make it sit right. The deck next to the wheel was the main entrance with a bridge across the stream, but I didn't think leading out to the "highway" was the best entrance. I modified it to be an observation deck and added a door at the bottom left along with one on the front side. This kit includes a wheel that will turn using a AA battery. I also worked on cutting and test fitting some tunnel portals, so far so good.
