Hi group. Still in the process of reviving my first locomotives, after bring back to life my MTL F-Units, I just remembered that I stil own a couple of Rogue GP38s. They had been resting in their boxes for 20 years or so... So I put them on the tracks, and one doesn't run anymore (the second one, not too bad, even if it's far from current AZL products). Its headlights go on, and I hear no growl coming from its motor, so I suspect there is a juice flow interruption somewhere between the locomotive's wheels and its motor's contactors. Looks like both chassis halves are cliped together, with some miscellaneous electric equipment (diodes ? any other system ?) put randomly here and there.. My question today : how can one proceed in order of separating both chassis halves and above all putting them back together ? There is no instruction sheet other than one saying the one-year warranty will be cancelled if one dissasembles the locomotive.. Thank you for any input ! Dom
Oh, wow! Maybe try posting this over on the AZL Forums page, got quite a few knowledgeable people over there.
Do a search for "Improving Performance of the Rogue Locomotive Works GP38-2" Better yet Contact Rob K from Z Track Magazine,. He probably knows more about the RLW loco's than anyone else.
Curious, will the newer GP38 shells still fit the old Rogue chassis, and vice versa? I heard they're still the same?
AZL GP38 shells as far as I remember still to today say "Rogue Locomotive Works" - its the original mold from what I recall and why we are blessed with a sub-$100 locomotive.
Dang, I'll have to look at one of my Milw GP38's to see! Can't beat the newer GP38's for price and reliability now, plus the details that come with them.
It will work i just fit my 1997 Ztrack RLW body (one of the first 26 GP38-2's made by RLW) onto one of the new GP38-2 replacement chassis. The Fuel tank on the brass chassis is bigger than the tank on the new chassis so i'm not sure how well a old chassis will fit into a newer shell.
Just finding it has been a long time since I started this thread.. And I didn't care yet about reviving my ill unit. But anyway the other one, even if it makes anoise that could be ranged between a that of a rattlesnake and A long time sine I opened this thread.. I didn't yet set my dead unit back to life, its motor seems to be stuck. The same problem as on my old C44-9Ws. But the other one, even if it produces the noise of a rattlesnake works correctly, now as it get broken in. Not a bad figure with some of my AZLs. Still have yet to revive the dead one, that will be one of my next goals.. Dom
