I just bought a Rivarossi 0-4-0 and the loco's wheel flanges are too deep for code 83 track. As these date back to the 1960s has a fix for this been found? I'm thinking of running power through two files and let the wheels spin and grind off some of that depth. Also the tender is brass and has a 'Japan' sticker on it. Is this original? I’ll post up some pics on the recent purchase thread.
The trick with the files has been a common solution for years and reportedly works fine. After all, we're talking about removing .013" of material.
I have this engine and run it on Atlas code 83 track. I used a sanding wheel in a dermal tool and powered the locomotive wheels and sanded at a angle. Then used a file thin 1000 grit sand paper.
Can you give me any info on the tender? It looks right but there’s a sticker on the bottom that says Japan. It also appears to be made of brass.
I put Ahearn friction bearing caboose trucks with electrical pick up on the tender for belter performance. But the tender does say Rivarossi on it and has a plastic shell and frame It runs good with the extra 2 wheel pick up per side on the tender. A LED head light was also added to the locomotive. Here is a video
Have a look here to see if the loco and tender match http://www.rivarossi-memory.it/ENGLISH_VERSION/Riva_American_Locos/Riva_American_Steam_Locos.htm in case something is missing, the italian version is more complete http://www.rivarossi-memory.it/Riva_Loco_Americane/Riva_Loco_Americane_Vapore.htm
