    Greetings,

I was wondering how many 40’ ribbed side box cars are out there tucked away? I know we have an ex-Milwaukee box car in Portola but it was repaired and modified by the WP with 7’ doors. There is one sitting at a museum in Chehalis Washington. Any others stored, parked on or off their wheels? I’m contemplating a kit bash of one and would like to try and get some detail shots of that Milwaukee trade mark box car.

    TIA

Greg, I live inNorth Bend, Washington which is right next to Snoqualmie. At the Snoqualmie Railroad there is a 40ft Milwaukee Road ribside boxcar still with the Milw markings on it, though some are very faded but still in original paint. If you are an N-scaler like I am JnJ trains makes a resin kit of both the 40 & 50 ft ribside cars. If you would like me to I can get you photos of that boxcar and send them to. Just let me know what areas you want detail shots of and I will be more than glad to provide them for you.

Darn! I can't find my photos of that car in Snoqualmie! That one is missing, unless they found the old one, or got another, one door. It's a lumber loading car.

I keep thinking there is one on the Olympic Peninsula somewhere. Off it's trucks. But 40? Or 50? Or long gone by now?

    Hello cwwrman,

That would great. Some overal shots of the car and door area would be nice. Off hand what size door is it? The one we have at the Portola RR museum isn't the original door.

If you are using digital you can e mail them to me at:
