While 'fanning around Shelby, MT, I saw my first KCS ACe! Just west of CP Teton, we scooped this hot EB stacker, and some quick railfan about face and throttle work later, my wife had him bagged; and not too bad considering we were pacing at 50 MPH.... Kristal Siembida photo: When we got ahead of him, we found a nice place to park, and I snapped some shots once he stopped. A Sweetgrass, MT-bound freight was crossing over in front of him at the monster signal bridge west fo Shelby, and was headed to the international border. The stack had to stop short of the signals, providing a nice shot for me! Here's the Sweetgrass local at the signal bridge, with the stack waiting in the background: I got back into my trusty railfan mobile, and grabbed a closer place to park, and hiked out on the prairie for some better shots. Here's the nose; the candycane striped handrails take the cake!
A boring roster shot: Here we see the stacker, and the Sweetgrass Local in the background, heading north: A shot of the whole train: And my favorite shot of the day:
Thanks guys! I know Ed was gonna ask for a roster shot, or a better shot of the train.. he knows me too well to not chase a train like this, and get a better shot!
Out of all the railroads that have Aces, I think this has to be the best. KCS did a nice job when picking the sheme for this engine. Nice catch.
