    ngager,

I have some experience with resin castings (lots of them). However, as I live in France, the products that I'm using may not be known in your area, or be somewhat different.

What do you want to know ?

There is a company in Georgetown California called Bragdon Enterprises. They usually attend all the GATS shows in California. They also have a web site: http://www.bragdonent.com/index.htm

Hi there. Well, if you click on the link in my signature you will see (if you already don't know) that I make N scale detail parts, a large sum of which are resin.

I don't know where to begin because I don't know what kinds of things you are going to cast, so ngager, if you would E mail me at CraigM111@aol.com, I would be more than happy to fill you in on any information.

One thing I can tell you is that if you want some really nice resin and mold compound, check out Micro Mark. They have some really cool stuff.

Hope this helps, let me know if I can help any more.

An earlier post mentioned Bragdon Enterprizes, but did not point out that they not only sell RTV and resin material they sell an excellent video tape on how to make mold and resin castings.

Ngager, you might do well to go to a pattern shop, (Yellow Pages) and ask questions, look at their shop, see how patterns, molds and waxes are made. They can suggest sources for modeling wax, resins, catalysts, and molding practises, ans well as various materials to make the molds from. On one visit, I was given 2 to 5 pound blocks of waxes, and of all the lost wax castings I have had poured, I have hardly made a dent in those blocks. The resins they use are more specialized than is available from a hobby shop, and occasionally, if I had my mold ready, I could run down there when they were pouring resins, and they would shoot the proper mold release in my mold and pour it for me. I not only got to watch MY mold being poured, but learned a LOT about it. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Some of the shops are hiring too, and it doesn't hurt to work for the company that can do the very molding you want! See? [IMG]
