    Anyone use this Kato rerailer..........

......... or the single track version? If so how well do they work?

I'm going to try and build a lift/elevator section of track between two levels and would like something like these at the two levels and on the lift track to try and avoid derailment issues.

I could buy them but I'm interested in making my own with maybe a combination of 3D printed parts and hand-laid track.

I have four. one at the NUMA dock serving as a flatcar unloading area, another serving as a part of a grade crossing in the port, one more serving between the platforms at the village station, and the final one at the ore loading at the mine. They work excellent at railing and rerailing.

Thanks John that helps. Now what do you think about this working.

The dotted line would be the area that lifts up and down 10 inches to tracks that it mates with on two levels. I'll have the lift platform pin itself at both levels so track alignment should be very good but probably still out a hair. If I used the Kato ones (don't make my own) I'd cut them shorter on one end and then butt them together as close as possible on both sides of the joint where the lift meets each level of track.

If there is slight misalignment do you see them possibly helping with that and helping to keep the train on the tracks going on and off the lift?

Both sections would have to line up perfectly and no bump absolutely level over the joint. Have you thought of another way to access the upper level?

Thanks, I think I can get the level part (no bump) taken care of. I'm more concerned with the side to side alignment with N scale track not being very wide.

If this doesn't work I'll probably build a helix and only go up 8 inches. The lift would save about 50 feet of track, plus laying it all and I wouldn't be waiting for ever for the train to climb or descend the helix.

I have a few of them on my layout Sumner. The two on the main see most of the traffic plus they are handy when switching out engine or train consist. no issues at all so far. Would think they would be fine for what you are wanting to use them for but like John said, make sure they line up exactly, that will be key.

I miss the previous version of Kato's rerailer... buying them when I can find them at reasonable prices.

this is also the single track version… there is a small piece in the middle that joins them together. The piece in the middle gives them a 33mm spacing, that matches all other Kato double track pieces. Oh, and they work pretty good.
